Welcome to Saturday Morning Tunes, an award-winning, family friendly concert series featuring stars of the children’s music scene, hosted at the WTMD performance studio in Towson!
When we were growing up, kids' music was pretty lame. These days, there's a whole genre of music called "kindie" or "kids rock," and it's full of really great musicians making songs you and your little ones can enjoy together. That's our mission: To present concerts you can enjoy with your kids -- not just for your kids.
NEW: Gift certificates to Saturday Morning Tunes! Why not give someone an experience instead of a thing? You can now purchase gift tickets which are good for any of our upcoming kids' concerts. You'll receive e-tickets which can be printed and presented at the front door.
We're thrilled to present a concert of songs from two of the greatest kids' movies ever. Black Root Underground will perform songs from "The Lion King," and Kristen Toedtman & Matt Hutchison and their band will do songs from "Aladdin." This show is rain or shine, held at Power Plant Live's enclosed outdoor plaza stage, where we held our Phish tribute for kids in June 2019 (check out this video from that show). Parents and kids -- dress up as your favorite character from either movie! Doors open at 10:30 a.m. and the show starts at 11 a.m. at 34 Market Place in Baltimore. $5 validated parking is available at the Pier V Garage at 711 E. Pratt St.
More about the performers: Kristen Toedtman has sung on the soundtracks to "Frozen," "Minions," Despicable Me 3" and others, and has shared the stage as soloist or in small ensemble with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Philip Glass Ensemble and Frank Zappa's Mothers of Invention. Matt Hutchison spent years singing and writing songs for the popular Baltimore rock band Fool & Horses. Black Root Underground is a funk & hip-hop band from Baltimore featuring singer and songwriter Jamaal "Mr Root" Collier, a Young Audiences teaching artist who is one half of the kid-friendly beatboxing duo Baby Beats.
Oct. 26 - Baby Beats album release show At WTMD
Join us for the album release show for "Play Mode," the new record from the Baltimore vocal percussion duo Baby Beats. Max and Root have been longtime friends of WTMD, and we're excited to have them back for this live concert and radio broadcast. Plus, the opening band is All Access, the winner of (cool) progeny & WTMD's Battle of the Bands: Kids Edition at Hard Rock Cafe.
Doors open at 9 a.m. and the music starts at 9:30 a.m. at WTMD's performance studio, 1 Olympic Place in Towson.Doors open at 9 a.m. and the music starts at 9:30 a.m. at WTMD's performance studio, 1 Olympic Place in Towson.
Nov. 16 - Beatles Family Festival with Yellow Dubmarine
The Beatles are the ultimate kids rock band -- the one that kids, parents and grandparents can all enjoy together. And the Baltimore-based band Yellow Dubmarine does reggae versions of classic Beatles tunes, complete with a full horns section! Tickets for this show will be on sale soon. Location TBD. Stay tuned!
Dec. 14 - Mini Holiday Spectacular at Towson university
Do your kids like "Frozen?" Of course they do. And if you're also sick of hearing the soundtrack on endless repeat in the car and at home, bring your family to see the classically trained chamber pop group Outcalls take on the "Frozen" soundtrack. It is awesome. We'll have other live music, as well as arts & crafts, Santa Claus and more. This show is at Towson University's West Village Commons Ballroom. Princessess Anna and Elsa will be meeting and greeting fans after the show. Doors open at 9 a.m. and the music starts at 9:30 a.m.
More details about saturday morning tunes
Concerts are every month on Saturday mornings, broadcast live on the radio with a live studio audience. We've had members of They Might Be Giants, Barry Louis Polisar (who wrote the theme song to "Juno"), Latin Grammy winner 1,2,3, Andres, Baltimore kids rock stars Milkshake and Baby Beats, and more. We've had sold-out Grateful Dead and Beatles shows, and our Phish tribute for kids was our biggest ever -- more than 1,000 parents and kids at Power Plant Live in June 2019!
Thank you Baltimore Magazine for naming Saturday Morning Tunes a Best of Baltimore award winner! They wrote, "Kids can rejoice at this awesome new concert series, tailored just for them. Tip back a juice box and get ready to rock out."
The WTMD performance studio is a bright, clean environment with comfy furniture that’s ideal for climbing and sitting. Both our men’s and women’s bathrooms have stainless steel changing tables, and stools for our bathroom sinks. And we strive to create a kid-friendly, judgement-free environment at all of our off-site shows.
Also -- kids under 2 are free! However, please reserve a free spot for your kid(s) under 2 so we know how many little ones to expect. Family Four Packs can be used with any combination of adults and children.
